Ecocentric

I was given 2 gorgeous 1800's pocket watch cases last year and knew that I would have to turn them into something wearable.

I had never tried growing moss for long periods, so I planted the cases out and tried growing them myself. A few months later they looks just as good, and all I did was splash them with water every couple of days and left them on a bright windowsill.

I always thought that the moment moss dried out it began to die, however there were times I let them dry out for a week and they became a dull green/brown colour. I then wet them as usual and they became green and lush again!

I've loved these so much, and hope they find new Ecocentric owners who will rock these 1800's items 2014 style!

My obsession with concrete continues!

This little grey and gold gem was an experiment on making moulds out of cardboard. I am still finding the process of of using concrete really exciting and waiting for it to 'go off' makes me as impatient as a child!

Geometric planters are all the rage at the moment and I think this one came out having a sort of industrial elegance. I think I may try to do a collection of planters similar to this.

This item will be for sale at the Rozelle Markets in Sydney this Sunday the 9th of Feburary.

See you there my Ecocentric friends!

Tealight candle holders

I've been experimenting Hebel, an incredible aerated concrete product. You can cut it, sculpt it, sand it... just about anything! The only downfall I can find is that it's quite brittle.  I've made a pot out of hebel and out of the off-cuts I made these geometric candle holders!

I love their texture, and when they are lit, it shows even more in the little shadows it creates. These will be available at my next market stall, and already I'm wishing I could keep them!

Cute concrete planters!
Concrete planter

I've always loved the relationship between nature and human made items and oh have I been experimenting!

Concrete is my latest obsession, and I'm getting ready for another market by making cute concrete planters.

Using a silicone muffin tray, concrete, sand, and water, these little objects came to life and they were so much fun to make. There is something about the process that requires waiting which seems to make it so exciting.

I'm thinking of having a slightly Valentine's themed market stall soon so I'll have these for sale there. I may not personally have a love to give one to, but I like the idea of making things that other eco-romantics will love!

Lots of love, Ecocentric!

The other day Brigette Brown of the Daily Wellness Revival dropped by and did a little video interview with me about Ecocentric! She has the most fabulous blog and YouTube channel about general health, nutrition, naturopathy, and even botany. We're partnering up for an episode on the Daily Wellness Revival TV show, and may even do a little step by step video on how to make an Ecocentric succulent heart!

Videos to come!

Thanks Brigette for being to wonderfully Ecocentric, and hopefully I can help you with any horticultural questions you ever need to know.

Please like her on Facebook, so you can have a laugh and learn something new every day like I do!

A succulent ball years on!
One of my first succulent balls right at home at Eastwood NSW

Thanks for the image Erin

I've been sent some fantastic images of my products in their new homes, and every time my heart skips a beat!

This is what a live for - seeing these pieces I put my heart ( and all my succulents!) into going forth into the big wide world. When I make them they are only an item, but they become more as they are displayed someone special in a home.

I feel like deleting that last sentence as it sounds like I'm talking about my offspring, however it's true and I'm all about that so I'll leave it!

If any of you have fantastic images of your Ecocentric items, send them in to me! I'd love to see them.

Rozelle Market Stall

Ecocentic had it's first market stall on Sunday! It was such a fun day, meeting customers and gauging the reaction to my products.

It seems to validate what I do, and encourages me to keep experimenting and pushing the boundaries of plants!

The day was a great success despite the difficult 35 degree heat and strong winds (although I'm extremely sunburnt!)

I loved the feeling of having my own little shop for a day, and is making me dream a little of that eventual possibility. I met some incredible people throughout the day so thank you to you.

I really need to say a huge thanks to many people: Debbie for being my incredible assistant- I couldn't have done it without you, Nicolle clout for helping make the whole thing happen, my housemate Jas for putting up with the temporary market stall set up in the lounge room, to all my friends who came to support me...

.... and of course all the lovely customers who dared to be Ecocentric like me.

A grassy attempt to get me filing my tax receipts!

Those that know me would think of me as being an organised person. However, if only they knew the creative lengths I have to go to to get there!

One of my last frontiers of organisation I had not found a fun solution to was filing my tax receipts. Up until now, getting home from the shops and filing them as a normal person would was just not working.

So I figured a box that you could just slot them in to would be more fun ( small things make me happy) and thus would be more likely to get me to use it, and thus again would leave me with more deductions come July!

Maybe this would be something fun for you personal tax receipts? And I guess it doesn't need to be artificial turf... why not try some beautiful paper? All you need it a tissue box!
